Since we’ve put the front racks on our bikes, I have determined that I will never own a transportation bicycle without a front rack ever again. I get so much use out of it, and I really miss it if I’m riding a bike that doesn’t have one.
Given that I find it so useful, I thought I would do a quick run-down here of some of the things I’ve carried on my front rack.
Box of Chinese Takeout
Shovel for Gardening
3-gallon water jugs
A 3rd bag of groceries (in addition to having two in my panniers)
My work bag and such if I need to stick other stuff in my panniers
Compost for the garden
50 lbs of dolomite lime for the garden
Cat litter in different variations
Cases of cat food
My wife’s front rack
Our entire laundry basket, going to the laundromat (see also here)
Though I’m not a big fan of Amstel beer in general, I highly concur with their proper use of a bicycle and particularly the front rack. Thanks to Alicia from Cycling Without a Helmet for the video :)
Do you have a front rack or basket on your bike? What kinds of stuff do you use it for? Please share in the comments, and I also have created a Flickr group called Framed Front Racks if anyone wants to add their photos there, as well.
