A number of us here in Portland are working on setting up a cargo bike group in Portland, that will (we hope) be a way to congregate and help people and businesses who use or need/want cargo bikes in Portland to collaborate for advocacy, fun or just to help each other out.
We hope to organize both bike-related events, such as cargo-bike races, as well as more community-focused events, such as cleaning up neighborhood parks or schools, with the help of our bicycles for transporting goods.
One of the first things we are hoping to do is to get a group of businesses who use cargo bikes for their business, as well as some bike shops that sell them, to form a group for the Rose Parade in June. The timeline is short, and we have to apply and be accepted, but that would provide a nice boost of publicity.
We also hope to provide some information about what types of cargo-carrying bikes exist, what their respective strengths and weaknesses are, and what might suit you best, whether you’re looking for a bike for personal use, or for your business.
We hope to focus on Portland specifically, but also incorporate folks nationwide as much as makes sense – particularly in the informational aspects of what we want to do.
Things are kind of in the ramping-up stage at this point, but we are already live on Twitter at @TRANSPORTland, and we will soon have some web presence at http://transportland.org.
Anyway, if you’re in Portland and interested in being involved, keep an eye on Twitter and http://transportland.org and we’ll definitely get more information out ASAP, including ways to contact us about getting involved.
Cheers!
