Autumn in Portland

There are a lot of reasons I love Autumn in Portland. Cool, crisp mornings, colorful leaves, beautiful sunrises as I ride to work in the morning, frequent fog burning off to make for cool, sunny afternoons; even the occasional drizzle isn’t so bad.

Who ever said Portland was all doom and gloom after August? :)

Hey, someone got trigger happy with a camera :-)  Nice pics.  I’m glad you call it “autumn” and not “fall”.  Not only that’s something we don’t want to do on our bikes (to fall), but “autumn” sound some more colorful.  BTW, do you have any Canada Geese in Portland?  If  not, I can ship you a few thousand.  Sometimes there is so much poop on the bike path from them that I’m glad my bike has fenders…wouldn’t like to eat that stuff, even thought it’s just processed grass.

It’s been beautiful down here in Salem, too!  The trees are just fantastic and the fog over the Willamette…

Yeah, the fog over the river is one of my favorite things here in Portland, too!

This is my favorite time of year to ride in the PNW. We still get some clear, cold days, and the rain doesn’t pour down so heavy that I have to put on my full kit before going out.

Yeah, I generally don’t use any rain gear (with maybe one or two exceptions) until at least the end of November – usually up until then it’s mostly just light drizzle, or intermittent enough that you can pretty easily miss the rain if you try.

Beautiful photos. Taking time along the way continues to be one of the greatest joys of cycling in the city. Thanks, Dave.

I think taking time along the way is one of the greatest joys of living life in general. You’re very welcome!

I love those early morning shots. I’m never up that early (yet), so it’s nice to see the world from the eyes of “the other side”.

And I haven’t used rain gear much lately, though I just managed to score a cheap Showers Pass jacket and get a waxed cotton Carradice rain cape as well. Rain, you can’t stop me!

I have, since writing this post, used my poncho once, but otherwise I haven’t used any stuff specifically designed to ward off rain yet this year. Of course, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been intentional about what I wear (leather boots, for instance, figure in heavily if it’s wet out). :)
