Carrying Stuff

When talking about selling our car, one of the things we were concerned we wouldn’t be able to do by bike is refill our big water jugs.

We have one of those ceramic water pots with a tap on it that you can use with the big 3 gallon plastic water jugs, and we just fill up the water jugs at the grocery store, and use that as our drinking water.

I’m happy to report that I made it easily to and from the store last night with a full water jug, no problems. The bungee kept the jug firmly on the rack, no sliding at all, and the steering was still totally manageable with the full jug on there – about 25 lbs (I was even able to ride with one hand in order to take that photo.

Bicycles really are useful machines.

    Cool!

My handlebars get a little jittery with heavy loads on the front rack, but nothing so bad that I would need a car, instead.  :)

Yeah, I could definitely notice that there was weight on there, but it was totally manageable. I’m duly impressed that Amsterdammers carry people around on these racks though, that’s a whole lot more weight :)

Oh call me snarky… but we have some of the best, cleanest water in the world here in Portland. Yes, sometimes some idiot will decide to pee in the water, but the Portland Water Bureau is really on top of things. They’re quite impressive as far as water bureaus go if you ask me.  Oh I’m sure waterfowl might partake… but honestly, why anyone would choose bottled water over what we have provided to us across the city. It’s why I never freak out over the water bill. What a priveledge most of us take for granted!

I mean… unless you have lead pipes or something. It just seems more sustainable and less effort to replace the tap pipes.

Then you could carry other things!

Well, we rent an apartment, and sometimes our water comes out yellow. If you’d like to try to convince our apartment management company to replace all their pipes, go for it. In the meantime, we’ll drink bottled water and use the tap water for cooking.

Well, aren’t there laws and codes a landlord must adhere too when renting an apartment?  Hmm…seem potable water would be one of them. OK! I’ll stop… maybe…
