Spring Fever

Hi there everyone :) Sorry I’ve been a bit scarce again lately, we’ve been busy with spring fever, cleaning out our apartment, trying to sell our car, making secret plans with new friends, eating tasty stuff, and all of the usual things as usual. Including being soaked by Portland spring.

  • Lovely Bicycle!

After my first warm spring ride I am down with the flu. Otherwise fantastic : )

So, so, SO soaked! Your poncho-cape thing looks wonderful. I'm a webfoot through and through, and even I have had it with the rain this season.

And yet I ride. Every day. Because it beats all the alternatives!

I'm impressed that you're making the leap to selling your car. Good for you.

We've just decided that for the amount we use it, it doesn't make sense to keep it around. At this point, we're only driving a few miles per week (like, less than 20), and everything we need regularly is within about 1.5 miles, so it makes sense to just walk or bike, and then use a zipcar for the occasional exceptions where we need to go longer distances.

  • Dave

Heh, so you really do have spring fever! Sorry to hear that, I hope you feel better soon :(

    Need… to get… my bike…

Need… time… to get back to my own life…

Need… to not get sick any more this spring (talk about spring fevers)…

    Need… sunshine… damnit.

    :o)

How is your rain cape holding up in all the rain? I went out and bought some rain chaps because I thought we've have some nice light spring rain, but boy was I wrong! It's been a whole lot of downpours lately!

  • Dave

Don't worry, we'll take care of all that soon :) well, except maybe the sunshine… You never know about that…

The cape has been great so far, I'm really happy to have it. I need to have it shortened up just a bit, but otherwise it's great. Not entirely waterproof, but water resistant enough that after 35 min in dumping rain only exposed bits of me are wet. The only place it saturates is the kind of valley area between your arms, which doesn't matter, since it isn't touching you. Only issue is, being soaked like that, it takes several hours to dry.

    Nothing's perfect, I guess :)

Glad to hear that it's worked out, even in heavier rain! I know what you mean about nothing being perfect. It seems like any sort of rain gear I get only works for a certain type of rain/weather.

…after just saying (typing) that I now realize why some languages have dozens of words for one thing, like snow.

Hey, where did you buy that cape?!

  • Dave

It was handmade by my wife and mom :)

  • omgsoy

wow! no way! toooo cool! they should start selling them; i'd buy! :-)

  • Dave

Plans are in the works with some friends, but it may be a while before we are ready to sell. In any case, I'm sure I'll announce anything on here, so keep an eye out :)
