Date Night

The Friday before last, we had the first really nice day of Spring so far. Bright and sunny, not too cold, *no rain*! My ride in to work that morning was blissful.

We saw it coming in the weather report earlier in the week, so we decided to make it a date, and meet up downtown after I got off of work.

It just so happens that the cherry trees which line part of the Portland waterfront had just sprung into full bloom days before, the waterfront was swarming with people, and I stood underneath the trees and watched people as I waited for Trina to come over the bridge.

Finally, I saw her coming, so I got the camera ready (somewhat to her dismay) :)

It was so nice out, we just casually rode along the waterfront a bit, took a few more photos of people, and of the trees, and then finally headed to the restaurant.

A friend of ours had recommended Little Bird Bistro, a little French restaurant, on the north end of downtown.

We got in immediately, even though we didn’t have reservations (they had no reservations available as of a few days prior), and our waitress was wonderful, explaining portion sizes and how their menu is set up (recommend getting an appetizer or two, plus a main course). She was also very cheerful and we had a nice time chatting with her a bit.

Trina had a flat iron steak with creamed spinach (the spinach was the best part! – and that’s saying something, as the steak was delicious), and I had short rib pot au feu, served with mustard, horseradish, sea salt, and cornichons, and a marrow bone in the stew (yum!). As an appetizer, we split a bowl of mussels.

The dinner was fantastic, and we’ll definitely be going back at some point.

Afterwards, we meandered back to the waterfront, where people were still out and about.

We rode back over the bridge, and up the east side of the city, stopping to look back on downtown and just watch the sun go down a bit.

All in all, it was a wonderful evening, with a beautiful lady – and not only *a* beautiful lady, but *my* beautiful lady :)

I remember that sun-shiny day! The Boy and I made our way out in it too! Funny how Portlanders swarm to the sun after having months upon months of cold, wet weather. It's supposed to be loverly today, too, with more gloom and doom over the next week. So, get out there while you can! :-)

Well, I get out every day whether I'm thrilled about it or not, but the ride in to work today was pretty blissful :) Looking forward to at least a higher percentage of sun vs. rain :)

Dave, nice photos, especially the ones with the trees in bloom. Our trees (Toronto) are just barely coming to life. My commute this morning was great too, though it was raining and kinda windy.
