Bicycle Advertisement

This last weekend I ended up parking in a big bank of bikes at Portland State University while going to meet up with a friend to swap some camera film, and when I came back to get my bike, all the bikes in the row had these little advertisements tied to them, with a nice piece of twine, advertising a bike ride to raise awareness around issues of sexual assault.

Bikey Adverts

Of course, in Portland it’s no surprise to see people organizing topical bike rides, but I’ve never myself had an advert placed on my bike like that :)

If anyone is interested, the ride is Thursday, April 28th, leaving from SW Park and Montgomery (in the park blocks at PSU), meeting at 6pm, ride leaves at 7pm.

Have you all had people advertise things on your bike while parked?

"Back in the day" the BTA (local Portland bicycle advocacy group) used to promote themselves/get memberships by tying flyer tags to bikes. I got a few of them.

Oh, I love the idea of the bike advert like that! I have to keep this in mind in case I'm ever helping organize a bike ride. What a clever way to target cyclists! (And so aesthetically pleasing too).

Yeah, I think if it's done well, in a way that's easily removable, it's a pretty nice way to connect with people. I've seen in Europe too, where people do things like print seat covers, and then put them on all the bikes in an area – nice, practically useful advertisement :)
