Summer of summers

It has continued to be a pretty pleasant summer here in Portland, but we’re heading for some warmer weather today and through the weekend. This is more or less irrelevant though, as all this means is that, as usual, there are plenty of people going about their business by bicycle. Just take it easy, stop for a drink, wear a nice hat to keep you from sun stroke, and off you go.

Onward!

Your last photo made me smile.

Great post, and boy do I recognize that congestion at the Steel Bridge switchback. I notice even the speediest cyclists taking it a little easier today as the heat looms. It's pretty darn great out there, though, especially on the morning commute.

Yeah, this morning was beautiful. Cool, sunny, bright and cheery. Not looking forward to the plus-90 temps, but we'll deal :)

So plus 90 or 40 degrees and rainy, which do you prefer?

I have to say plus 90 because the bike doesn't need any maintenance (not that I do any).

Overall, I'm personally more comfortable in 40 degrees and rainy, but plus 90 does have the less maintenance bonus. Though with internal gears and chain case, maintenance mostly comes down to wiping the bike off occasionally :)

Well, rub it in, why don't you? ;) We all know how great Portland is. And I can't wait to live Europe vicariously through your upcoming photos. That's wonderful that you're meeting fellow bike bloggers while abroad, I can't wait to hear about that in particular.

Well, i have to make sure you remember how great Portland is, right? :) we're excited to get out and about as well, excited to meet Marc in Amsterdam, and excited to get back to Vilnius, it's been a long time.

Enjoy the weather while you can, but you might get ready for a bit of duck and cover. Joe Bastardi (the most accurate long range weather forecaster out there at the moment) is saying that while last year those of us on the East Coast got nailed by record breaking blizzards one after another; this year it's going to be the turn of the PNW.

Say goodbye to the Little Boy and hello to the Little Girl.

I'm up for some snow – we had a good couple feet two years ago, but basically nothing last year. Granted, that will mean walking a lot more, but that's ok, I like walking :)

I miss the winters from Lithuania, honestly – except in order for it to be really enjoyable, it would have to come with their preparedness for dealing with snow, which Portland doesn't have :)

". . .preparedness for dealing with snow, which Portland doesn't have"

Yeah, that's more or less why I brought it up. I'll be keeping on eye on your neck of the woods this winter; first, to see if Joe was right (when he's on target he hits bullseyes, but because he doesn't play the weaselly "chance of" game, when he misses, he misses clean) and second, to see how you guys cope with it if he IS right.
