A Nice Spring Afternoon

We were feeling a bit peckish this afternoon, and it had been partly cloudy out all morning, but looked like clearing up a bit, so we decided to go get a quick bite to eat at the nearby Franks-a-Lot hotdog stand :)

We gave Bertram and Beatrice a chance to canoodle a bit while we ate our Chicago Dog (Trina) and Kielbasa with sauerkraut (me).

We then felt a bit like a drink, so we went over to Crema, a few blocks away, and got a 5.5oz double latte and hazelnut macaroon (Trina), and a ginger lemonade and chocolate coconut cupcake (me). Shortly after we arrived, it started dumping rain. Luckily our table was under an overhang, and we just sat casually and watched the rain come down while we sipped our drinks and munched away.

We then wandered over to the indoor garden and terrarium shop we noticed across the street, decided a return visit there would be greatly needed, and pedaled home, the rain having pretty much subsided. Ah, Portland in Spring – you never know what to expect :)

Happy Weekend, all!

    Franks a lot! That's funny : )

I see that you guys put a basket on the DL-1. Someone was just asking me whether I've seen that done and I was responding that yes, I see DL-1s with baskets all the time. How does it handle with a basket on the handlebars?

Yeah, Franks-a-Lot is a pretty great name :)

The basket works pretty well – we had to get one with leather straps rather than hooks, because of the rod brakes, but it handles quite well with weight in the basket. It's not a particularly large basket, but still, I've ridden with glass bottles of liquid in it, and it still handles easily enough for me to ride one-handed comfortably. And, we just got the key for the locking fork, so now you can lock the fork in place while loading the bike, so the bars don't swing around and flop the bike over!

We're trying to figure out a way to put a rear rack on it, but the way the fenders are attached makes it seem like it's going to be a bit tricky to do it. We'll see :)

Wasn't it an awesome bike day? I love that big corral in front of Crema–in fact, I love Crema in general though it's not in my neighborhood.

I got some nice errand-running in today myself before the big downpour. And I have a hook-on basket for the handlebars of my new Omafiets, and it's sturdy and stable even with a full load of groceries–bottle of wine, produce, maybe some milk and meat, the every-two-days grocery run.

Lovely! What's a little rain when there's hotdogs to be had? That is a real Chicago dog there :)

@emeraldsedai: yeah, it was a great day for biking. We managed to make it out on Sunday too, back to Crema, for breakfast.

@Velouria: we're also considering putting a front rack on our DL-1, so we could get a bit larger basket, as that one is a bit small and it would be nice to be able to fit some more groceries in there.

@Dottie: yeah, there are a couple of really good hot-dog places in Portland, and we *love* Chicago dogs. It was so nice just sitting there with the rain coming down, sipping drinks and watching people go by hurriedly on bikes. Then 15 minutes later the sun was out again :)
