Morning Lights

There are a lot of reasons I love autumn, but one of them is riding in the dark. For whatever reason, to me it makes it feel a bit more private, personal, as if you’re just sharing something with the city and nobody else.

This morning on my way to work, I just felt inspired to take some video, so here it is. Enjoy!

    That's another beautiful video!
I made a short music film that has been greatly inspired by your videos. Here is a link if you'd like to see it. http://www.vimeo.com/669810
Can i ask where do have your camera when you're cycling? It's very smooth but doesn't seem fixed in place either.. For my film I had the camera in a big hat on my head and also on a mini tripod strapped to the basket of my bike.

Really enjoy reading your blog, I hope you have a super weekend full of nice food and cycling.
    Kindest regards,
    Aoife

Thanks! I'm glad you like the blog and the videos. I'd love to see your video, but the link doesn't seem to work :(

For most of my videos, I'm actually holding the camera in one hand. There is one video where I have a gorillapod mounted to my handlebars facing forward.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend as well. Cheers!

I always enjoy your videos and this one is so lovely, the music fits the mood perfectly. This is one my favorite times as well, truly a great feeling to be one with the city and feel at peace.

I can't believe you are just holding that camera in one hand! Especially in some of your videos where you are also doing things like going over a bridge and dodging people at the same time. Those are some skills!

In case you're interested, the song is by Moby, called Chord Sounds, from his album Hotel.

It helps a lot to have an upright sitting position, because I'm not leaning at all on my hands, so it's a lot easier to ride with just one hand and be able to control the bike. Also, I'm never riding very fast.

Sigh. I miss Portland. I can't wait to come home.

This is what they should be showing at the climate conference in Copenhagen. Talk is cheap amounting to nothing. Watching this just makes me wish that I could be transported there in a blink of an eye, riding with this piece of music.

@The New Oregonian & Anonymous: yeah, I feel pretty lucky to have this as my morning commute instead of a freeway packed with traffic, exhaust, honking horns, etc. I ride over I-84 here every day, and it's always just at a near or dead standstill. I love the freedom of not being dependent on a motorized machine to get me around where I need to go, and I love experiencing the weather, the city, and just having time to relax and think and wake up or wind down from work. It's one of the highlights of my day, every day.
