Clothes make the man

Here at Portlandize, we believe it’s important to look good while riding your bike. That doesn’t prescribe a particular style or genre of dress, but just means that you should wear what you feel good in while riding, just like you would while walking or riding the bus or whatever.

I just found a quote from Mark Twain which confirms my belief that dressing well is important:

“Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society.”

So there you have it. Get your clothes on, get on a bike, and look your best, whatever/however that is. Happy riding!

Friday, to work.

Gotta love Mark Twain! Nice outfit. I wish I saw more well-dressed men on bicycles.

Obviously Mark Twain never got to go on a WNBR :)

But yeah, looking pretty swank there. I want to hit this winter looking a little more dapper than my usual slacker-casual. I'm thinking wool in traditional cuts and layers would be nice.

Yeah, wool is great for the winter – I have a long wool coat I wear, and a wool cap, and even when it's raining fairly hard, I rarely get wet underneath them. Plus wool keeps heat even when wet, so riding in the nice Portland rain you can stay warm as well. No real need for hi-tech fabrics, sheep have the best :)

Naked man on a bike is not a good look. Good idea to go with a more traditional look : )
